At this point, most of us have seen the horrifying videos of cellphones popping popcorn. Even though everyone seemed to know the videos were fake - the comment streams on YouTube were full of people insisting there were hotplates under the table - I still wrapped my head in tinfoil and the popcorn meme spawned its own mini-meme: people trying to prove how the popcorn videos were faked. One guy dismantled his microwave, another group failed to pop corn but made a steak dinner with cellphones and way too many people actually got together and tried to replicate the original video with their own cellphones. So how did Cardo Systems, a Bluetooth headset-maker, create this viral campaign? Just good ole digital magic. CEO Abraham Glezerman explained how it was done, yesterday on CNN (see video below).
